Many of you ask me questions about my weight and my weight loss journey, my body fat, my age and other such juicy figures which our society loves!
Yes, I used to be fat! No, I don’t post old photos from those days for two reasons:
Today, I weigh myself every day. No, this approach is not anxiety-inducing if you treat it like brushing your teeth as I do ;). However, if weighing yourself daily stresses you, then I certainly advise against it. Do what works for you!
PS. To get the “long-legs look” if you’re short like me ;), set your camera to just below waist level and angle your body slightly upwards.
At my highest weight, I was 75 kg (165 lb) at 5’2″…but today, the first thing I measure is my body fat percentage (back then my scale didn’t measure body fat).
My body fat at the time of writing this post is 19.5%. Important: beware of body fat scales that you find on the web! They have definitely evolved over the years to make us feel better (a bit like the cardio machines at the gym that tell you that you burned twice as many calories!).
For my age range, a body fat measurement between 18 and 22 is excellent.
I have mostly always been at about 22% which is very healthy. Nevertheless, I prefer being slightly below 20%: more athletic, more toned and overall simply stronger! I’m careful however to not go below 18% – even though 14% is acceptable for an athlete – because based on my studies, I know that we need at least some fat cells to store the inevitable toxins that our bodies hold (so that they don’t go to our organs instead :).
Taking a picture a day keeps you on track
As far as weight goes, I oscillate between 52 and 54 kg. But hey, if you saw me on TV for the release of my book “Ventre Plat en 5 Min par Jour” [Flat Stomach in 5 Min a Day], I weighed 56 kg. Yes, our weight fluctuates, and that’s totally ok. Some doctors say that a variation of 5% in weight is harmful, but these variations have existed since the dawn of time and as long as they are not the result of yoyo dieting, but simply due to more or less bodybuilding or a little indulging, no worries!
Note that I do not pay attention to BMI (Body Mass Index) because this calculation is RIDICULOUS! I do not understand why we are still talking about it in 2019! Indeed, BMI is the weight/height ratio…so basically a very muscular man can receive a number as bad as a sedentary obese guy.
And my age…everyone knows that I’m 25 years old in my head, 500 years in my soul, and – on paper? Well, April 29th was my birthday, but I disappeared to beautiful Scotland where numbers were all but forgotten ;)!
