You surely know that your coach is a fan of yoga: a gentle and sometimes intense exercise which allows you to relax your mind, eliminate stress, sleep better, improve joint health, and strengthen muscle tone (gazelle-like legs, firm triceps, flat tummy) – in short, yoga is a grounding and all-encompassing workout.
I don’t know about you, but I like to do my yoga outdoors or in a relaxing indoor environment, dressed comfortably – nothing too fashionably tight nor too baggy, just enough to be able to see the moves my body makes so as to perfect my poses and maintain a mind-body connection.
But in typical American style, the classic yoga trend has become too boring, demanding something edgier, something crazier, just to keep people engaged. So why hassle with clothes when you can exercise in your birthday suit?
After mentally digesting this wild trend, I wonder to myself: Do gyms really offer it? It appears that they do, but to my knowledge, only in a few cities like New York, Boston and Los Angeles where Kourtney Kardashian talked about her naked yoga sessions. But what is the real thought behind this practice? The founders of this movement, Joschi Schwarz and Monika Werner, explain on their website that “practicing yoga naked frees you from negative feelings about your body and allows to to be more accepting and deeper connected with yourself and the world around you.” Hmmm…
Are there really more followers of yoga thanks to this trend or is it remaining an unlikely workout?
The answer to date: apart from the dozens of followers on each side of the USA, the trend is far from popular.
I’ll leave you to form your own opinion on this matter, however, personally I do not want to find myself behind a naked person trying to do a downward dog! I like the idea that appropriate fitness apparel can cover my body, and even slim down some of those little trouble zones we all have ;). I love fitness fashion: a pink top paired with a bright blue bottom makes working out all the more fun.
Pigs will fly before you see your coach naked doing yoga!
How about yourself? Would you do naked yoga? Now that Pilates classes offer naked sessions maybe we shall see more and more naked practitioners!
