What would you have done? Here’s what happened…
This week I received the following email from my press secretary:
My first instinct is to say YES! We don’t refuse any promotion that can help support our business and help create (or maintain) new jobs.
Then some doubt sinks in, so I check the composition of their products and find various parabens; perfumes containing carcinogenic compounds; BHA, a substance recognized by the State of California as a carcinogen and which may cause cancer or affect fertility in females, etc., and the conditions in which the plastic packaging is made in developing countries is not something I could condone.
My marketing manager attempted to defend their cause (no judgement, this is his job after all :), by telling me that featuring in this magazine does not mean I endorse their products…but my answer remained a firm NO.
I won’t sacrifice my soul and principles on the altar of publicity and money!
I remind myself of the 4 values that govern my life and my work: ethics, innovation, quality, and health.
What would you have done?
Namaste!
