Antarctica Expedition – Day 8 : Went to bed at midnight on day 7… with a shining sun ! Couldn’t sleep until 2am for I was too excited! Arriving at base camp in the sun was magic!
Today I woke up in a cotton ball. Zero visibility! Plan is to spend the hours in the sleeping bag.
Great breakfast : toasted muffin, scrambled eggs and bacon (yup we took it all with us!) and chai tea.
Visibility is getting worse so we are spending the day strategizing for tomorrow and resting, enjoying the mountains (which is something the 7-summitters tend to forget).
I won’t lie, being surrounded by these insane people is very humbling and scary. I mean, one of them is:
- climbing the 7 summits,
- skiing to the two poles,
- rowing across the Atlantic and crossing the Mojave desert (running) in one year!
So yeah, I am scared about tomorrow. Even though I did train. I hear them and I don’t feel ready.
Early dinner for a long sleep before tomorrow’s climb to lower camp
Your questions : “How do you brush your teeth”. Not 3 times a day and not too early or too late. I wait until it’s not as freezing and I brush my teeth because I need to throw my rinse water 100 yards away from my tent.
Indeed, nothing of our passage is left behind. Each square inch of soiled snow is sent back to Chile.
See you at low camp!
