You have heard it since you were a kid: you need to wash your hands regularly to avoid getting infected or infecting others. All year long. Not just when a new virus comes out.
But somehow, some of us forget, so here we go: the best protection against germs, microbes, viruses et al is very often a 20-sec thorough hand wash with water and soap.
More and more people are buying antibacterial gel/lotions. I am usually against those because our bodies need to be exposed to germs in order to build a strong immune system. That’s the reason why our kids are stronger than us: they are exposed to way more germs when they go to school, kindergarten, etc.
But with the panicky messages we’re getting from our governments and news outlets around the world, a large proportion of the population is piling up on antibacterial gels.
Easy to make. Super affordable. Better for the environment.
Don’t pile up the plastic! Instead of buying a myriad of small plastic bottles which will end up in our poor over-polluted oceans, make your own disinfecting gel!
Ingredients:
- Baby oil or any oil you like which does not leave too much residue on your skin, or aloe vera (as pure as possible)
- Rubbing alcohol or 99% alcohol if you can find it
- Optional: Essential oils (but not citrus oils as they are photoreactive)
Directions:
1. In a dispenser (recycle one you have in your house!) put 1/5 oil and 4/5 alcohol.
2. Add essential oils if you want (I use vanilla essential oil).
3. Blend and voila!
The big plus of this recipe is that it is not drying and your hands will love it!
Take care of yourself!
