Happy New Year! I know — New Year’s resolutions are on everybody’s mind, and hey, it can get overwhelming! Well, I love to keep things simple and truly achievable, so today I’m offering you 3 simple tips that you can start implementing now, to make this January a positive one for your health & fitness!
Hey, New Year resolutions don’t need to be grand. They just need to be doable :).
It’s winter here in the Northern Hemisphere, and I know that means we’re all more susceptible to getting sick (sigh), curling up on the couch and snacking, and caving to any excuse not to exercise!
Here’s how I combat potential health & fitness obstacles during the month of January…
1. I don’t stop exercising
- I keep up my 10,000 steps a day, #NOEXCUSE! This means if I’m nearing the end of my day and I haven’t reached 10k (and remember, all steps count, even the ones around your house!), I do one of my original MetaBoost routines (an indoor cardio session lasting just 15 mins), or I go online and do a Zumba workout from the comfort of my living room.
- I follow my LeBodyChallenge fitness program, because I don’t need to go outdoors in order to do so, and I can get results in less than 4 weeks!
- I sign up for weekly indoor activities that I truly LOVE. Swimming, salsa dancing, or the latest new fitness workout offered at my gym.
2. I abstain from dairy, have all-fruit breakfasts & follow my KetoSmart program
When our immune system is under more strain, I encourage avoiding cow dairy in order to reduce lactose intake, as well as the protein in cow’s milk which increases mucus production. Even for those of us who are not intolerant to cow dairy, reducing lactose helps facilitate a more successful elimination of toxins which we all need during the cold weather!
- Replace cow’s milk with goat milk or vegan alternatives (almond milk, cashew milk, oat milk etc.)
- If you like your cheese, opt for sheep’s or goat’s; or go with vegan cheeses and butters instead.
- If you’re used to a dairy breakfast, switch it up to an all-citrus fruit breakfast so that you can stock up on Vitamin C! Grapefruits, oranges, tangerines, pomelos and lemons are all in season and they do wonders for your immune system!
- I follow my KetoSmart nutrition program: 30 days to reboot your metabolism, feel energized and…lose weight!
3. I pick a winter workout buddy!
With less sunlight and low Vitamin D, our general morale is heavily reduced during the cold and wet season.
Staying active and getting outdoors, even for a short while, preferably at the brightest time of the day is the easiest solution to break the pattern of sluggishness. Even dull winter sun filtered through a thick layer of cloud is significantly more powerful than any artificial lighting in your living room!
Pick a friend you know you can count on to step outdoors with you at least 3 times a week (even for just 30 minutes is perfect!)!
There you have it: 3 easy things you can start doing today :). Rooting for you!
