Fitness Week Log: this is an approach I love to use. At the end of the week, I fill out a Fitness Week Log that summarizes everything I have done over a week, in cumulative mode.
Rather than saying I did 12,000 steps today, if you tell yourself “I did 12k x 7 steps, or 84,000 steps”, it becomes bigger!
You impress yourself, and that motivates you to go even further. To give yourself new challenges, to invite friends to come walk with you or to boost friends to take up a challenge like “who wants to walk 100,000 steps with me this week?”.
For example, my last week looked like this:
To reach 100k on the bike, I decided to go to all my meetings by bike. Without realizing it, I did over 15km per day, sometimes 20!
