I was surprised last week when I published photos on Instagram of my homemade raw goat milk homemade yogurts.
Apparently very few people know how to make this recipe though:
🔺 it’s super simple
🔺 it’s less expensive than the store-bought version
🔺 you know all the ingredients
🔺it’s a fun recipe to make by yourself or with kids
🔺you can experiment with a variety of ingredients
🔺it’s better for the planet: No plastic cups that you throw away but glass containers you can use and re-use
Without further ado, here is the easiest recipe on the planet!
Ingredients
- A heavy bottom saucepan
- A thermometer
- 4 cups (1 liter) preferably raw goat, sheep or cow’s milk
- 1 yogurt
- Yogurt cups
- 1 Yogurt maker or a large Dutch oven
Steps
- Heat milk and bring to a small rolling boil. Boil for 20 min
- Remove from heat source and wait until temperature falls below 110F
- Add yogurt and whisk well
- Transfer to cups and close lids
- Transfer to yogurt maker and keep warm for 12-15 hours depending on how firm you want them (the longer, the firmer)
- If you don’t own a yogurt maker, transfer the cups into a large dutch oven in which you add hot (but not boiling) water to 3/4th of the cups height. Transfer to oven at 120F and keep for 20 min. Then turn oven off but keep the Dutch oven in, keeping the oven door tightly closed. Keep for 5 hours.
- Transfer to fridge and enjoy!
- Keeps for up to 15 days.
